Lessons I Learned as a Newcomer

A more personal guide to the lessons I wish I understood earlier when rebuilding my career in Canada.

1. Your experience still matters

It may need translation, but it does not disappear. The key is learning how to explain your experience in a way the local market understands.

2. Confidence and humility can work together

You can be proud of what you achieved before Canada and still be humble enough to learn how things work here.

3. Networking is a skill

Networking felt uncomfortable at first because I did not want to ask for anything. Over time, I learned that networking is about relationships, learning and shared perspective.

4. Mentorship can change momentum

A mentor helps you see blind spots, sharpen your story and stay encouraged when progress feels slow.

5. Stay curious about people

My love for cultures, cuisines, travel and people helped me adapt. Curiosity makes every new environment easier to understand.
